Why is it I’m always left with more questions than answers at these events? Looks good so far from what I saw… in fact the instant switch is something I sorely miss on my ps3… I’m constantly going back and forth and you have to exit most things etc… and the wait AHHH THE WAIT! but I’ve got so many unanswered questions…

    • Andy

That seems to be normal. At the unveilings it’s very controlled and they tell us exactly what they want us to know. It’s only after that the information we want to know comes out as launch gets closer.

From the presentation today I’m not very optimistic about the system fitting with what I’m looking for.

What turns you off or didn’t meet expectations?

    • Andy

Well, the biggest thing and a dealbreaker for me is it appears the rumors of used game restrictions and online-DRM are going to be true:
      http://kotaku.com/you-will-be-able-to-trade-xbox-one-games-online-micros-509140825

But what if you want to bring a game disc to a friend’s house and play there? You’ll have to pay a fee—and not just some sort of activation fee, but the actual price of that game—in order to use a game’s code on a friend’s account. Think of it like a new game, Harrison says.

“The bits that are on that disc, you can give it to your friend and they can install it on an Xbox One,” he said. “They would then have to purchase the right to play that game through Xbox Live.”

“They would be paying the same price we paid, or less?” we asked.

“Let’s assume it’s a new game, so the answer is yes, it will be the same price,” Harrison said.

But also the focus on non-game related stuff doesn’t fit well with me. The Kinect I had fun with because it was still about games, but all this TV, movie, music type stuff turns me off. I’m sure it’s appealing to many people, but I don’t want one device to control everything on my TV. It’s like the old saying ‘jack of all trades, master of none’. Is it something I could use once in a while? Sure. But it doesn’t add any value to the system for me.

  • Brian Hinson

Yeah I just heard about the DRM… I think this will drive people to pc or ps4, me included.

    • Andy

It definitely would Brian, assuming the PS4 doesn’t do something similar. Which I am suspicious of now, given EA dropped the Online Pass for all their games. I just have a hard time seeing one of the two systems with such restrictive DRM and the other without. I would think publishers would demand it of Sony. They’re being really short sighted in my view.

Carlos, I think those businesses are going to be in trouble unless things change. Gamestop’s stock price took a real hit today. Phil Harrison, who is a VP at Microsoft and obviously very credible, who made the comments below, says there will be some type of system to ‘trade-in’ and resell games, but it sounds like it’s going to be through Microsoft directly and not through Gamestop or other used game retailers. At this point we’ll have to wait and see until we get more concrete information. I’ll be sure to post about it when we do because it’s something that affects all of us.

What do you think this mean for stores that depend on used game sales?
